Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts

Servings: 6 to 8 appetizer servings
Time: 3 hours

  • 3 cans (small) whole water chestnuts or 1 large can
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 lb maple smoked bacon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tsp dried mustard
  • 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp balsmaic vinegar
  • few dashes hot sauce

Combine 1/4 cup soy sauce and 1 tbsp maple syrup. Drain water chestnuts and marinate for
    30 minutes.

Cut bacon slices into lengths long enough to wrap around chestnuts (I find cutting the slices into
thirds works well). Secure with a toothpick. Bake on rack over foiled lined pan (put 1 cup
water in bottom of pan) for 30 to 45 minutes at 350 F or until bacon is cooked and somewhat
cripsy. Drain on paper towels. Can be frozen at this point.

For sauce, mix remaining ingredients in small saucepan and simmer gently for 15 minutes.

Place chestnuts in a pan large enough to hold chestnuts in a single layer. Pour sauce over.
    Cover loosely with tin foil.

Bake at 350 F for 45 minutes. Serve immediately.

Comments: These are so yummy. I have friends who would come just for these and nothing else.
