Council Report, 18 May 2011
By Holly Franklin
The PLCA will receive $50,000 as per their request for their on-going rehab of Puslinch Lake.
Roads Department: a request for purchase of new truck now instead of next year because of number of repairs needed to the old truck, was met with approval. The new truck will be purchased now.
Delegations:
Wray Hutton on behalf of Story’s Bridge. He asked a contractor to look at the bridge, and received a quote for replacements considerably less than what the Township was told. Wray says that on any weekend between 40 and 50 cars of people use the bridge. Mayor Lever says that a public meeting is scheduled for June 16th about the bridge, which is now closed.
Rick Schnurr on behalf of residents of Maple Leaf Lane, across from the ORC (new Optimists Recreation Centre), as yet to be available for its intended use. The residents are still concerned about the wall and the mechanicals on the east side of the building, facing Maple Leaf Lane. Dennis replied that residents will meet next week with the landscape person to ask questions about their concerns. With respect to the 3 tall blue garbage bins, these will be discussed after the technical issues are solved.
New Business: Sue Fielding attended the meeting at Mini Lakes on behalf of Road Watch. Puslinch is the busiest Volunteer Fire Department in Ontario.
The Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market opens on Saturday, May 28th (8am – 1pm).
Wayne Stokely reported that the first Community Forum was a success and that we hope to have more such meetings, beginning in the fall.
Gerry Schmidt reported that the County is unable to use its software adequately to give us an answer on the pros and cons of closing Conc. 1 at Hwy. 6. We will have to go beyond the County level to get answers about this issue.
Dennis reports that there will be no money for either Hwy. 6 or 7 until after the election. The HCLA (Hamilton) gave County Councillor Don McKay an award for 10 years of service. Dennis says that Don has done a great job for them.
