Council Report, 21 September 2011
By Sandra Soloman

This was a very short meeting – less than an hour – and there was no closed meeting! Consequently, my report will not be very long!

The “Communications”, “Reports” and “Accounts Payable” portions did not produce very many comments or questions, which probably explains why the meeting moved so quickly. The Fire Chief mentioned that their annual Breakfast would be taking place on October 1st – this is open to all Puslinch residents.

There were 2 delegations on the Agenda but only one was in attendance.

Delegation 1:
Astrid Clos and Dianne Paron regarding the revised Draft Plan of Condominium application for Mini Lakes. No microphones yet so I heard very little but I gather that this was simply an update and that the County would be commenting on it in due course.

New Business:
Susan Fielding reported that the COP Committee had had a booth at the Aberfoyle Fall Fair. Quite a few people stopped by the booth and the OPP motorcycle was a big draw, especially with the very young. Susan had attended the Poverty Workshop in Elora and found it very thought-provoking and the information a real eye opener.

Puslinchg Lake were still waiting for their permit and they were getting quotes for the clay liner.

Wayne Stokley thanked Council for their support at the Community Forum the previous week. He was hoping to see a change in direction at the upcoming Forums – more discussion between the public and Council on future directions for the Township. Wayne had attended the Water Forum and found it very informative. He noted that sustainability depends on low growth agenda, which is hard to do. Population numbers affect the watershed and we need to ensure that we are not overtaxing it. He said it was interesting that the initiatives were coming from the bottom up (municipalities/environmental groups), not being dictated by the government. At the next Council meeting Wayne wanted to discuss possibly reducing the speed limits on all gravel roads, especially Concession 7 which had been requested at the Community Forum by Bill Sims.

Jerry Schmidt had also attended the Poverty Workshop and was very impressed with it.

Mayor Dennis Lever said that Wayne should be very proud of the Community Forum which was his initiative. Dennis thought it had gone well. He also wanted all the issues raised at the Forum to be brought forward to Council to be dealt with.

(Susan mentioned that she had received a call from Betty Andersen who had raised the issue at the Forum regarding security lights at the car parks on the 401 (one at Highway 6 and the other at Townline Road). Betty said that she had misspoken when she talked about security lights. She had meant to ask for security cameras. Susan will contact TWD about the matter soon).

Dennis commented on the opening of the new library and said that it had lots to offer residents, including high-speed internet, and it would be open 45 hours a week.

After the meeting I asked Brenda Law when the microphones would be coming and she mentioned that they are still sorting out quotes and she hoped to have them installed in the next couple of months. Me, too!

The next Council meeting will be October 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.
