The Puslinch Library

Library Photo

By Frankie Shaw

The Wellington County library system is comprised of 13 branches spread around the county, with a central library/headquarters located in Elora. Puslinch is the southernmost branch, serving a community of just over 5,000 residents.

Our collection is growing and we can offer, in addition to regular books, talking books (tape or CD), video (VHS or DVD) interactive multimedia, and magazines for children and adults.

We have access to all the items in the Wellington County system and we have an excellent delivery system for those who request items not found on our shelves.

We can give professional help in finding employment. We also offer internet access to independent researchers.

We host a weekly Story Time for children aged 3 to 5 years. It is held on Friday mornings from 10.00 am. - 11.00am. Sessions run for 6 weeks. Phone for details and to register.

Lines from the Library (January 2005)

By Frankie Shaw

It’s early enough in the year, yet, that some folk may still be firm in their New Year resolutions to better their life and change their habits. Along with the ’LOSE 10 lbs’ reminder attached to the fridge, there should also be a receipt fastened under a library fridge magnet listing the library books out on loan with their library due date. With this in mind, I made a list of resolutions, which, too, could be attached to the fridge door in a similar manner. More in the manner of Moses’ commandments ( after all he was a bookish sort of person, although his tomes were unusually heavy), I present them here for your serious consideration;

Thou shalt use thy library card more than thy credit card.
Thou shalt ensure that all tapes or discs are in the case before thou returnest it to the library.
Thou shalt return thy library books by the due date.
Thou shalt not drop books in the deposit box when the library is open.
Thou shalt not recount the plot in detail to the librarian.
Thou shalt not whine that thou hast read everything in the library.
Thou shalt pay thy library fines with grace and a smile.
Thou shalt not challenge the accuracy of the computer.
Thou shalt pick up thy requests before the expiration of 5 days.
Thou shalt not request 57 videos via the library on-line service.

March break announcement.
We are having three exciting programmes for three different age groups on three separate days. On Tuesday, March 15th we will be holding a chess workshop in the morning. On Wednesday March 16th in the afternoon, Andrew Queen will be presenting ‘Alligator Tales and Dragon Scales,’ “a musical space where kids can sing and dance along with the storytelling”, and on Thursday March 17th we will be holding an extended StoryTime so that Carolyn Weatherson can entertain us by readings and crafts, followed by a watercolour painting workshop. Carolyn is the illustrator of Robert Munsch’s book ‘Goldfish’. This workshop will be suitable for children up to age 12.
