By Frankie Shaw

The Wellington County library system is comprised of 13 branches spread around the county, with a central library/headquarters located in Elora. Puslinch is the southernmost branch, serving a community of just over 5,000 residents.

Our collection is growing and we can offer, in addition to regular books, talking books (tape or CD), video (VHS or DVD) interactive multimedia, and magazines for children and adults.

We have access to all the items in the Wellington County system and we have an excellent delivery system for those who request items not found on our shelves.

We can give professional help in finding employment. We also offer internet access to independent researchers.

We host a weekly Story Time for children aged 3 to 5 years. It is held on Friday mornings from 10.00 am. - 11.00am. Sessions run for 6 weeks. Phone for details and to register.

Lines from the Library (February 2004)

By Frankie Shaw

Fashion has never made much of literature but now readers are about to take their revenge. Right now it's fashionable to have your nose buried in a book. Oprah Winfrey's club continues to promote literature, and more than a few Hollywood types have taken up the pen. Dolly Parton and Julie Andrews among many, have long been established as children's authors. Not to be outdone, Madonna has taken time out from her busy schedule to sit down and write. The 45 year old pop diva has signed a deal to publish a series of five children's titles, two of which (Mr. Peabody's Apples and The English Roses) are now available. The press release announcing the books says that as with everything she does, Madonna is going to surprise, delight and lead the way… Despite the astonishing range and variety of her stories, they all evoke the secret that the Red Fox shares with the Little Prince: " It is only with the heart that one can see rightly." Motherhood has changed Madonna and these books are not quite along the lines of her previous book 'Sex', but we can see where she's coming from!

The latest Ruth Rendell contribution, (The Rottweiler) proves once again that truly the author can be called a mistress of her genre. Everything a superb mystery novel needs is here in abundance; gripping suspense surrounds the whodunnit, skims the issue of howdunnit and eventually lands in true Rendell territory of whydunnit. Set in what Dickens' London became when it grew up and peopled with wonderfully believable characters, this book zips along. It's a great read from start to finish. It takes a master to relay such a profound message and Rendell's latest offering serves to confirm her as one of the great mystery writers of our age, to which her many fans will attest. She is also one of the most prolific, the first two pages being taken up by a list of her previously published works - 59 in all, not including the many books of stunning psychological precision which she has written under the name of Barbara Vine.
