PUSLINCH PEOPLE

Paul Dimock

The webmaster of " www.puslinch.net", unofficial website of Puslinch Township launched this privately operated site on January 1, 2001. Its purpose is to serve the needs of township residents and businesses and visitors to our township. Paul was searching for a project, which could serve as a hobby. He had experience in website design and had previously created a number of websites for small businesses. Observing that the township did not have a website, he set out to produce one.

Paul was born in Montreal. He and his two sisters grew up in the West Island suburb of Pointe Claire during the 1960's. After secondary school, he was employed in retail at Simpsons, where he met and in 1976, married Brigitte Pannequin.

By 1979 he had earned his B.A. from Concordia University in Montreal. In 1980 Michelin Tires Canada Ltd. was recruiting bilingual staff in Montreal and hired Brigitte for their head office in Nova Scotia. The couple moved to a small farm near New Glasgow in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. At various times, Paul drove a delivery truck, sold real estate, was employed in auto part sales, compiled statistics on unemployment for Canada Employment Centre and worked at the New Glasgow Y.M.C.A.

In 1985 Paul decided that he wanted to do more with his life. Brigitte transferred to the Michelin Waterville plant and they moved to the Annapolis Valley. Paul entered the M.SC. programme in psychology at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. He received his degree in 1989 and obtained a position at the university as a psychometrist, a psychologist who works with statistics generated from experiments. While continuing his work at the university, from 1990 to 1994 he was employed by the Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre, where he assisted and counselled schizophrenic patients.

In 1994 Brigitte accepted a downsizing severance package from Michelin and they moved to Puslinch Township to build their dream home next to his parents, Hedley and Mary Alicia (Lish) Dimock, who have lived in the township since 1980. Mary was editor of the Puslinch Pioneer from September 1983 to June 1985 and Hedley was on the Board of Education. Brigitte is now the office manager for Renaissance design Inc., a company that designs and sells vestments, sanctuary décor and tapestries for the Catholic Church.

Paul works with the Guelph Wellington Association for Community Living at a group home for intellectually handicapped adults, fulfilling his aim in life "to do some good in the world". In both private and public life, Paul Dimock serves others in his community.
