Lucy (excerpt from report submitted by Jan Donnithorne)
Lucy was purchased from a puppy mill at a cost of $1,000.00. In her short, 2 year life, Lucy has been owned by four different parties. Three of the four worked daily in fulltime jobs, the fourth was an elderly woman, living in a condo, who had great difficulty in walking.
Since 8 weeks old, this little girl has basically been left alone 5 days a week for 10+ hours a day. Three owners subsequently gave her away to someone else due to Lucy’s excessive barking. The fourth owners were also absent from their home daily during which time Lucy was, again, left alone. After a couple of months, the husband, Bob, decided to call and inquire as to the possibility of us taking Lucy into our Club Rescue as he and his wife felt theirs was an unfair situation in which to keep Lucy.
Lucy is a sweet girl and a very quick learner. She does not seem to have been abused although she did cringe a bit at a fly swatter in my hand so she may have been hit with something when she barked. She has the usual Westie trait of being a “bit” stubborn. She is house trained and crate trained. She interacts well with children and loves to play and run with my beloved Westies, Angus and Molly. She is very energetic and likes to go out for frequent walks. She can be a bit bossy, however, I would not say she is aggressive. I have taught her to sit before she gets her bowl of food. She has also learned not to snatch treats from someone’s fingers although this needs a bit more practice as she gets very excited when treats are in the offing!!
I have been working diligently with Lucy in (1) improving her manners and (2) teaching her to be obedient.
Lucy will be a wonderful, affectionate, loyal little Westie companion to someone who provides a home where the following will be part of her life:
· At least one adult who does not work and who will be able to give Lucy love and attention throughout the day
· 2-3 walks a day
· Ongoing, patient obedience training
It is not expected that Lucy will incur any vet expenses while in foster care.

Lucy has gone to live with Joanne Doyle and her family in Bowmanville. Joanne doesn't work so she has lots of time to spend with Lucy and she is getting all the attention she was missing with previous owners. The whole family just loves Lucy.
