Township Hit by Blackout PUSLINCH, ONTARIO--On Thursday August 14 at 4:10 pm all electrical power in the Township was lost. The blackout lasted over seven and half hours, with power returning at 11:30 that night. The impact was immediate. The traffic at the Morriston traffic light began to back up as all motorists had to stop. During the height of rush hour traffic the delay at the light was over five minutes. The agricultural community was hardest hit. Simon MacFadden, a local dairy farmer, reported that he had to siphon gas from his truck for his generator, which powers the computerized milking system. "Got a friggin' mouthful of gas," said Simon. His teenage daughter Camila was more vocal in expressing her displeasure. "That's the best night for TV. I missed 'Friends', 'Will and Grace' and 'CSI'. Friggin' blackout!" The blackouts were apparently widespread as they were also reported in the neighbouring communities of Nassagaweya Township and Flamborough Township and the City of Guelph. |
