Meet the WebMaster
Picture of PaulMy name is Paul Dimock and I'm the webmaster at puslinch.net. I live on Maltby Road in Puslinch Township with my wife Brigitte and our two cats.

I have a B.A. from Concordia University in Montreal and have a Masters degree in Psychology from Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. While at Acadia I bought my first computer. For almost $5000 I was the proud owner of a top of the line 8086 PC with 640 kilobytes of memory, two 5 and 1/4 inch floppy drives--but no hard drive, a 13 inch monochrome monitor, a 9600 baud modem and a daisy wheel printer.

It was great. I could dial into the university mainframe computer and do course work from home--I was hooked.

When I graduated, because of my computer experience, I was hired by the psychology department as a psychometrician (a person who does statistical analysis on the data generated by psychology experiments). With the computer and modem I could input the data and run the statistical programs from home, then direct the print output to the print center on campus for the professor to pick up the next day.

When Brigitte and I moved to Puslinch I got a job in a small accounting firm as the computer technical support person. While providing all manner of computer services, I was asked to design a web site for the firm. I took a course and bought a thick book on HTML. The first site was primitive by today's standards, but I have stayed at it, and have since designed a number of small business web sites.

My philosophy towards web site design is to keep it simple. For the types of sites that I design, the viewer is coming for information. My job is to make that information available as easily as possible. That means I don't use unnecessary graphics that are slow to load and I try to make the page navigation intuitive. I will not design one of those sites that come up with a big picture that takes forever to display, only to tell you to click here to enter--or worse yet, tells you that you need to download a plug-in to display the animated front page. No, I just attempt to give the viewer the information they have come for. Of course I use graphics and try to make the pages look attractive, but the information comes first. Brigitte and I are in the processes of adopting a West Highland Terrier. For more information about this visit www.puslinch.net/asta.
